Netflix Show Mockup
March 2024

Overview

This project involved creating a fictional Netflix-style series and promotional interface.

The assessment deliberately encouraged us to be strange, chaotic and imaginative, so I created The Legend of Design Computing, a deliberately dramatic fictional show built around first-year design students.

The final outcome included Photoshop key art and a full streaming-platform mock-up called Webflix.

Problem

Oddly enough, having almost complete creative freedom was one of the hardest parts.

There was no client problem telling me what the visual answer should be, so I had to create my own world and then make that world believable enough to sit alongside real streaming content.

Solution

I leaned into the ridiculousness instead of trying to make the image overly realistic.

The key artwork combines a military helicopter, bunker, motorcycle, animals, mountains and other unrelated elements into one exaggerated action-adventure scene.

I then treated that collage like genuine entertainment artwork by placing it inside a streaming interface alongside recognisable genre imagery and adding the kind of information a real platform would show, such as title, rating, genre, seasons, description, play controls and cast information.

Reflection

This project gave me permission to make something intentionally weird.

That was useful because a lot of design education focuses on making things controlled and logical, whereas advertising and entertainment design can sometimes benefit from a strange idea that grabs attention straight away.

It also improved my Photoshop compositing skills. If I continued it now, I would turn the fictional show into a larger campaign with character posters, episode thumbnails, social trailers and more consistent promotional imagery.
